Ha! I've just learnt a random but very useful tip to opening stubborn jars and I think you'll like it.

If you ever need a bit of extra help opening a jar, instead of hitting it against the counter, just use a piece of beeswax food wrap instead. Because of its grippy and a bit sticky texture, it makes for the ideal jar opening tool. Yup, it works like a charm!
